Post-Earth January 6th – February 1st 2018 Opening Reception: Saturday, Jan 6th from 7-11pm 2nd Fl, 237 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102 Curated by Sophia Sobers, POST-EARTH focuses on artists working with concepts of nature, structure, and meaning in a new political climate. The trends of proposed 2018 governmental budget cuts to such agencies as the National Parks Organization, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency poses the question of what value does nature and the environment now hold in the modern world, especially as the very scientific structures and data created to protect and monitor the land is now under question? The artists in POST-EARTH are working in a range of disciplines from drawing, sculpture, mixed media, to site specific installations. Their work explores our existence in the world, the physical structures we create to work with the land and our infrastructure, and their understanding and observations of the natural world. Exhibiting artists are Katrina Bello, Cybele Collins, Lauren Comito, Dominique Duroseau, Alexis Elton, Dena Haden, Duy Hoàng, Delanie Jenkins, and Steven Pestana. Gallery hours are by appointment. Admission is free and open to the public. Gallery Contact: index.gallery@gmail.com, 862-218-0278 |
